Bearing Witness March 11 at ILWU Local 10 Union Hall (Video)

The March 11 Bearing Witness program, as viewed by live stream at the ILWU, longshore workers union local 10 hall in San Francisco, was wonderful and inspiring. Local 10 and the Labor Action Committee to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal co-sponsored the live stream preceded by a report back from longshore delegates who went to South Africa last month to build international support—mainly in Africa—for Mumia. So, before the live stream of the Bearing Witness event, we heard 4 longshore workers speak about their experience and we viewed a short video of a militant demonstration of the largest union in South Africa, NUMSA for freeing Mumia.

Dear Honourable Judge Lucretia Clemons,

Re: The Release of Mumia Abu-Jamal

I am writing to you as a Member of the UK Parliament for 26 years with reference the sustained injustice that has plagued the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal who has been spent many decades incarcerated.

This is a case I have followed closely and raised in the UK Parliament for decades, first under the Presidency of Bill Clinton, supporting an Early Day Motion asking the President “to intervene to prevent the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal and to guarantee him the conditions for a fair trial.”

Bearing Witness in the Case of Mumia Abu-Jamal: Judge Calls for Release of Mumia (Event at ILWU Local 10)

On Feb. 16, ILWU Local 10 shut down the Ports of Oakland and San Francisco to demand freedom for Mumia Abu-Jamal and justice for Tyre Nichols. Now the union is hosting a live stream program, “Bearing Witness in the Case of Mumia Abu-Jamal” featuring Rev. Judge Wendell Griffen, retired state Court Trial Judge, Arkansas. Judge Griffen states flatly that current law requires that Abu-Jamal be released. “The prosecution messed up, the investigation messed up, and Mumia Abu-Jamal was wrongfully prosecuted, wrongfully convicted, wrongfully sentenced and is now wrongfully incarcerated,” says Griffen.
