Bay Area Demonstrations for Mumia: April 20, April 24

Mumia Abu-Jamal’s life is in danger!

A former Black Panther, world-renowned revolutionary journalist and innocent political prisoner, Mumia was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and congestive heart failure. He will soon be hospitalized for the second time this year, this time for open heart surgery. Earlier, he was hospitalized for four days, and each of his limbs were shackled separately to the hospital bed. The shackles dug into his skin and caused horrific injuries.

The Only Treatment is Freedom!

Join us for demonstrations to call for Mumia’s release!

10 March 2021

For Immediate Release

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), as the biggest trade union in South Africa, and one of the largest on the African continent, has made an urgent call to the Governor of Pennsylvania in the U.S. Mr Tom Wolf to intervene in the case of Mr. Mumai Abu-Jamal.

Abu-Jamal, formerly known as Wesley Cook, was convicted of fatally shooting Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner after Faulkner reportedly pulled over Abu-Jamal’s brother during a late-night traffic stop in 1981. He has been in prison since 1982, and was on death row until 2011, when his death sentence was ruled unconstitutional. He is now serving a life sentence. We believe that he is innocent and has been framed by the corrupt racist justice system in the U.S. He has been imprisoned for 38 years, mostly on death row.

The movement to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal, the most prominent political prisoner in the U.S.,
from the slow death of life imprisonment and the jaws of this racist and corrupt injustice system is at a critical juncture. The battle to free Mumia is as ferocious as it has ever been. We continue to face the unrelenting hostility to Mumia by this racist capitalist injustice system, which is intent on silencing him, by all means.

Akiko Hoshino, Chair of the Hoshino Defense Committee (Japan), Letter to Governor Tom Wolf

Demand for Mumia-Abu Jamal’s release
December 29, 2020

Dear Governor Wolf,

I am Akiko Hoshino, Co-chair of Hoshino Defense Committee, and the wife
of the innocent prisoner Fumiaki Hoshino who died last year in prison
after 44 years detention. On November 14, 1971 he led a demonstration
against the Okinawa Reversion Agreement between the U.S and Japan and
was sentenced to indefinite term imprisonment for framed-up charge of
killing a policeman. There was no physical evidence at all; only forced
eyewitness testimonies of juvenile participants of the demonstration
were the incriminating evidence. The “most competent evidence” was
that a juvenile saw a man in beige jacket beating the policeman and he was
Hoshino. However, according to the physical evidence found out later,
Hoshino wore light blue jacket and gray trousers.
