For Labor Action to Free Mumia!

“We recognize that the persecution and death-row incarceration of Mumia Abu-Jamal is a blatant attack on the working class and all victims of oppression, for whom Jamal is such an eloquent spokesman. We also recognize that relief for Mumia cannot be expected from the biased and racist so-called “justice” system in this country. Furthermore, workers have the power to free political prisoners such as Jamal through class-struggle action against the bosses and their state.

We therefore constitute the Labor Action Committee To Free Mumia Abu-Jamal as a united front of groups and individuals, working within the labor movement, locally, nationally and internationally, and in solidarity with the Mobiliazation To Free Mumia Abu-Jamal. We are dedicated to educating workers about Jamal’s case, and to promoting a class-struggle movement, including strikes and other job actions wherever possible, to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal!”

-Adopted at the first meeting of the Labor Action Committee in Oakland, California, January 10, 1999
